Shrewsbury Welcomes Queen’s Baton Relay

Earlier this week, in scorching heat, the Queen’s Baton Relay arrived in Shrewsbury with Baton Bearers taking it in 200m turns to tour Shrewsbury with rapturous applause at each handover including Shrewsbury Castle, where Kelda Wood MBE met Shropshire’s Lord Lieutenant, Anna Turner before making its way to the Quarry where huge crowds had gathered to see the arrival of the Baton and a reception committee awaited hosted by the Chairman of Shropshire Council.

The Relay began on 7 October 2021, with Her Majesty The Queen placing her Message to the Commonwealth into the Baton. The Baton is now on its 294-day long journey to every corner of the Commonwealth. This collective journey will ignite hope, solidarity and collaboration, as it connects communities embraces unique cultures and shares inspirational stories, finishing at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on July 27th.
