Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service update

Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is considered to be the MBE for the voluntary sector.

As many of you know Shropshire has literally thousands of voluntary organisations and groups.

As  a county we have been very successful at punching well above our weight for these awards and we hope with your help that we can continue to do so. Last year we were able to run workshops in both Telford and Shrewsbury for organisations who were considering getting involved. As a result, we had a number of excellent nominations submitted last September and assessed by deputies from October to January.

Given Covid 19 we are unable to run the workshops at present but we have recently circulated through the Shropshire RCC and Telford & Wrekin voluntary sector, the PowerPoint presentation we used last year.

Organisations cannot nominate themselves, rather they need to be nominated by someone who knows them well.

Please note, you do not have to be a registered charity and any group of three or more people is eligible, providing more than half are volunteers.

The closing date for nominations this year is September 25th. I cannot tell you just how thrilled organisations are when they are awarded a beautiful crystal.
