Friends of Telford Town Park receive their Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

The Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire was delighted to finally be able to present the Friends of Telford Town Park with their Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service that was awarded in 2020, but the Covid pandemic made it impossible to hold a proper celebration.

Volunteers, family and guests gathered on  Friday 30th September 2022, at the Holiday Inn Telford for a formal presentation of the award by Anna Turner, the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire. Jenny Wynn, the Vice Lord Lieutenant, read the Citation and Raj Meta, the Mayor of Telford also attended as a guest.

Since 2003, the Friends of Telford Town Park have grown steadily to promote, conserve and protect the 170 hectares (450 acres) that is situated in the centre of Telford.

The Friends have for some years played a major part in the conservation and improvement of the award winning Chelsea and Maxell Cherry Gardens alongside other activities in the wider park, such as scrub clearing, litter picking, hedge laying and general assistance with the local Nature Reserve.
