Being recognised with a King’s Award for Enterprise is one of the most sought-after achievements for British businesses. Shropshire based businesses have been very successful in this competition and the 2026 King’s Award for Enterprise saw three fantastic businesses being recognised – and for the second year in a row we can celebrate a locally based business winning their fourth King’s (Queen’s) Award; an incredible achievement.
Thermserve Ltd, based in Telford, won their fourth KAE Award and in the words of their Managing Director Steven Hodgkiss “Winning the King’s Award for Enterprise for the fourth time, and specifically for International Trade, is a testament to the strength of our global strategy and the dedication of our team. We’ve seen a significant increase in demand from overseas markets, particularly in the Middle East and North America, where we continue to build strong, long-term partnerships.
Our other Shropshire winners were Fowler and Gilbert Ltd based in Market Drayton and Pave-Aways Ltd based in Knockin who both won their first King’s Award for Enterprise for Promoting Opportunity. Both companies were judged to be outstanding in their commitment to training and supporting apprentices and to working with their local communities to make meaningful change.
Our winning companies, along with previous winners, business, and civic leaders from across Shropshire were invited by the Lord-Lieutenant to attend a celebration of their achievements kindly hosted by Lord Hamiliton of Dalzell DL at Stockton House near Shifnal. Supported by Shropshire Council, Telford and Wrekin Council and Shropshire Chamber of Commerce the reception was a fabulous opportunity to hear from the winners, and some past winners about the difference that winning this most prestigious of awards has made to their business and their staff whilst enjoying some lovely canapes in the beautiful rural setting of Stockton House.
