Village celebrates the first 100 years of its memorial hall

Mrs Venice Turrell unveils the Memorial Plaque at Bayston Hill Memorial Hall

Village celebrates the first 100 years of its memorial hall

HM Lord-Lieutenant was represented by  Claire Crackett MBE DL at the celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the Bayston Hill Memorial Hall.  She met representatives of some of the many groups who use the hall (see list below) and also viewed the exhibition detailing the history of the hall.  Since the hall was erected as a memorial for those who lost their lives in the Great War, it was very good to see a WW1 exhibition and also a display relating to Eric Lock  DSO, DFC & Bar, the most successful pilot in the Battle of Britain who was born and grew up in the village.

In creating a hall as a war memorial the original committee gave future generations the opportunity and also the challenge to live up to those who lost their lives.  By providing an excellent home for many groups and organisations, the Memorial Hall is clearly meeting that challenge and will no doubt continue to do so for the next 100 years as well.
