Last week the The Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire was delighted to attend the Shropshire Armed Forces Covenant Outreach Christmas Coffee Morning at Refresh, the cafe situated at Severn Hospice.
It was a wonderful event bringing together veterans, their families, and supporters.
The event included signing of the Armed Forces Covenant – The Armed Forces Covenant is the nation’s commitment to those who proudly protect our nation, doing so with honour, courage, and commitment. It’s a pledge that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve, or who have served, in the Armed Forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.
The Armed Forces Outreach provides a vital space for veterans to meet, share experiences, and enjoy the camaraderie that service life brings. It also connects them with practical help from service organisations—whether that’s advice on benefits, mental health support, or simply a friendly chat over coffee. For many, it’s a lifeline that combats isolation and strengthens community ties.
It was a wonderful event bringing together veterans, their families, and supporters and the Lord-Lieutenant was joined by the High Sheriff go Shropshire Mrs Jane Trowbridge JP, the Mayor of Shrewsbury, Station Commander and RAF personnel from RAF Shawbury, and Julia Buckley MP among others.
