Shropshire citizens recognised in the King’s New Year Honours 2025

The Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Mrs Anna Turner is delighted to share that four individuals from Shropshire have been recognised in the King’s New Year’s Honours list.

She said, “it is a proud moment for our county that Shropshire citizens have been recognised for their contributions to cardio-vascular disease, the UK’s green economy and climate action, education & sustainability, and oncology. I would like to congratulate them all for their efforts.”

Recipients are:

Officers of the Order of the British Empire

Dr. Matthew John Kearney, Shrewsbury – For services to Health and Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease.

Mr. Peter Laybourn, Little Stretton – For services to the UK’s Green Economy and Climate Action.

Professor Mark Ormerod, Whitchurch – For services to Education and Sustainability.

Members of the Order of the British Empire

Mrs. Phillippa Jones, Oswestry – For services to Oncology.

The Lord-Lieutenant for Shropshire, Anna Turner said:

“It brings me a huge amount of pleasure to see that Shropshire residents have once again been recognised by His Majesty for the outstanding work they have achieved. These medals are only given to a small proportion of people who have either achieved something exceptional in public life or selflessly made life better for others. It is a proud moment for all of us and I would like to congratulate them all for their incredible efforts.”

The Honours system singles out individuals who have gone above and beyond in their field of interest, or through volunteering.

Allocated on merit, the Honours system sees recipients identified by government departments, private and public bodies, and members of the public to ensure that all aspects of community life in Britain are rewarded.
