Shrewsbury Commemorates Battle of Britain

Air Vice-Marshal James CB CBE and Deputy Lieutenant, represented the Lord Lieutenant at the civic parade and ceremony in Shrewsbury, Sunday 15 September, to commemorate the Battle of Britain.

Seen here supported by Cadet Warrant Officer Gemma Block, who acted as wreath bearer, from 1119 Shrewsbury Squadron of the Air Training Corps.

Cadets from 1119 Squadron and a large contingent of serving men and women from the base at Royal Air Force Shawbury, were hosted and accompanied by the Lord Mayor, councillors, the local MP and members of the emergency services.

There are 2 air bases in Shropshire, RAF Shawbury and RAF Cosford, both training the current and next generations of aviators in a number of key trades, including helicopter aircrew, airspace management, engineering and technology.
