Lieutenancy visit to Deyin Tai Chi and Qigong Summer Camp

On Sunday, 29 August 2021, Mr Martin Stevens DL, represented the Shropshire Lieutenancy at the 21st Deyin Summer Camp hosted by the Deyin Tai Chi Institute. For twenty years the Deyin Tai Chi and Qigong Summer Camp have united many people by promoting health and wellbeing,  where enthusiasts received some of the best learning experience and in-depth tuition from world-class masters on Tai Chi, Qigong, and martial arts.

The Camp was held at the Holy Trinity Academy in Telford.   On the Sunday there were over 60 people in attendance, with participants from all across the UK.  The Deputy Lieutenant was invited to give a speech and helped to present the certificates.  The Deputy Mayor of Telford and Wrekin Borough and the Mayor of Oakengates were also special guests and gave speeches.  There were also speeches from the Chinese Ambassador, via pre-recorded video, and a famous master of Tai Chi.  Faye Li Yip and Tary Yip, the main organisers of the program, treated us to a special video of them participating in a ceremonial sword display that had been pre-recorded.

There were live demonstrations of Tai Chi and Qigong in the lecture theatre.  After the presentations of certificates, we were all treated to a special piece of the 21st anniversary cake.  The Deputy Lieutenant very much enjoyed the occasion and learning more about the ancient practices of Tai Chi and Qigong.
