The Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner was delighted to attend the Legal Service for the High Sheriff of Shropshire Jane Trowbridge JP at Ellesmere College, Shropshire together with The Right Reverend Sarah Bullock, Anglican Bishop of Shrewsbury and The Right Reverend Mark Davies, Roman Catholic Bishop of Shrewsbury.
The High Sheriff’s Legal Service is an annual traditional service that acts as a ceremonial event to support the judiciary, police, prison/probation services. It bring together key figures in the justice system, including judges, High Sheriffs from neighbouring counties, police, and voluntary sector representatives and reinforces the High Sheriff’s role as the Sovereign’s representative in the county for matters of law and order
The service, in the school chapel, saw a variety of musical interludes from the magnificent Ellesmere College Choir.
Prayers were led by the High Sheriff’s Chaplain, The Reverend Lucinda Burns.
The retiring collection was in aid of the Youth Awareness Day fund of the Shropshire Community Foundation. This is a permanent fund created by the High Sheriff as part of her Youth Awareness initiative. The aim is for the money to be raised predominantly by the young of Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin to support local youth charities. Each year they will allocate funds amongst charities they choose, thereby giving them control and empowering them to make a difference.
The High Sheriff in Designation is Katy Tanner DL who takes office next month.
