Ellesmere’s Fizzgigs perform play about town’s Poor House

Last week Deputy Lieutenant Diana Flint attended a Fizzgigs of Ellesmere production about the Ellesmere Workhouse. The moving and poignant  play, staged in St Mary’s church brought to light this little known bit of local social history. The institution was  finally demolished in 1939.   The play was written following the inspiring initial research project done by 9 and 10 year olds at Criftins Primary school. Children and adults alike had an entertaining and enlightening evening.

Fizzgigs are a local community arts group who bring much creativity and camaraderie to Ellesmere. As a group they create a range of local arts events which are accessible to the local community and which encourage a sharing of experiences and skills across all age groups.  They aim to provide opportunities for individuals to learn new, develop or share skills and to promote integration and cooperation within the local community by encouraging participation and volunteering at events.  To find out more about this community group, please visit  https://www.ellesmere.info/fizzgigs-ellesmere-community-arts-group/
