Last week the Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner JP was delighted to welcome His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester to the County.
The day began with a visit to The Christopher Turley Armed Forces Community Hub. On arrival the Duke was greeted by Deputy Lieutenant Peter Holt and met with members of the Armed Forces community and viewed a book on the eminent military service of Christopher Turley during the Cold War. He also met with volunteers, council officers and representatives from the Hub’s partner organisations Telford Mind and Great Dawley Town Council. His Royal Highness also met with representatives from Models 4 Heroes, an art group and the Telford & Wrekin Armed Forces Outreach Team.
The party then moved to Wappenshall Wharf where they were met by Deputy Lieutenant Gavin Hamilton and volunteers from the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal Trust. The Duke viewed the canal site that has recently reopened after an eight year restoration project. The site now includes a visitor centre and cafe.
The final visit of the day was to the Hadley Guru Nanak Gurdwara where His Royal Highness was greeted by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant Jenny Wynn OBE and met with the men’s and women’s groups including social groups, exercise groups, Age UK and a craft groups where they were making thousands of hearts for palliative care patients and their relatives.
