Battle of Britain commemorated in Shrewsbury

On Sunday the 13th of September the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, Mrs Anna Turner joined RAF personnel, cadets,  the Mayor of Shrewsbury, civic representatives and members of the local community to mark the 86th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, remembering the courage and sacrifice of those who defended Britain during the Second World War.

A parade led by personnel from RAF Shawbury made its way into The Quarry, where a commemorative service was held at the War Memorial. 

Wreaths were laid in remembrance of those who lost their lives, followed by prayers and a two-minute silence.

The annual service provides an important opportunity for Shrewsbury to honour the wartime generation and remember the extraordinary bravery of those who took to the skies during the Battle of Britain — ensuring that their service and sacrifice are never forgotten.
