Last week the Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner joined Telford & Wrekin Council for the closing event of Foster Care Fortnight for a fun filled day for foster carers, staff and children.
Telford & Wrekin Council and Shropshire Council celebrates its foster carers every year alongside the national Foster Care Fortnight which runs for two weeks every May. The 2026 fortnight was celebrated from May 11 to May 24, 2026.
Foster Care Fortnight is the UK’s biggest foster care awareness raising campaign. Established by The Fostering Network in 1997, the campaign showcases the commitment, passion and dedication of foster carers. It also supports fostering services to highlight the need for more foster carers.
The Lord-Lieutenant enjoyed chatting with foster carers from both mainstream and kinship foster carers – the latter care for children they already know and can be members of their family or friends and it was a wonderful opportunity to shine a light on the amazing roles they play in our communities.
She said “Shropshire is very fortunate to have such individuals so totally committed to offering loving care and stability to children and young people in need”.
Last year she attended the event with Shropshire Council held at Shrewsbury Town Football Club’s Sovereign Suite.
